Henry Corbin (1903 to 1978), a leading French philosopher and scholar of Eastern thought, explores the work of Carl Jung through the lens of spiritual traditions from the East.
In this collection of previously unpublished writings, he connects Jung’s ideas with Sufism, Taoist alchemy, Gnostic teachings, and the wisdom of Sophia. Corbin suggests that while Eastern traditions offer rich paths of inner exploration, the modern Western world has few equivalents beyond psychotherapy.
By re examining Jung’s work on Buddhism and his essay Answer to Job, Corbin brings forward new perspectives on the spiritual depth within Jung’s thinking. He also reflects on the decline of mystical traditions and warns against rigid systems that limit imagination and the deeper reality of the soul.
